What is personal brand?

When people think personal brand they think of a combination of colors, and how their logo should be, or the look and feel of their social media timeline. though all of this is important to make a complete personal brand, however, personal branding goes beyond this. So, what is personal brand?

A personal brand is the unique combination of skills, experiences, and personality that make you who you are and distinguish you from others. It encompasses your reputation, image, and identity, both online and offline. Simply, it is the way you want to be perceived by on lookers. There is no doubt that employers are constantly looking at online profile of potential candidates to determine their suitability for a potential position.

Establishing a strong personal brand can help you build credibility and visibility in your industry, and can make it easier for you to achieve your career goals. Building a personal brand typically involves creating a consistent message and image across all of your social media and professional profiles, and actively working to promote and enhance your reputation.

The story of a latter day saint; Davis Smith of Cotopaxi

I love this scripture that says “Stand as a witness of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God…” Mosiah 18:9

I feel those professionals especially members of the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints who understands this principles have used it to bless their lives, the life of their co workers, and made the world a better place.

A good example is Davis Smith, the founder and CEO of Cotopaxi, an outdoor gear and apparel company with a mission to alleviate poverty through sustainable business practices. He was recently called to serve a mission in Brazil, pausing his multi million dollars business.

Davis Smith has shown through his examples of constantly talking about his values, and standing in holy places that you can grow a successful brand.

Even when he was called as a mission president, you'll see him still post about the new appointment and why it is valuable for him.

What Davis Smith did with Cotopaxi needs to be emulated

Davis Smith is known for his ability to effectively build a personal brand that is closely tied to the mission and values of his company.

Smith has been able to successfully build a personal brand by consistently and authentically communicating the mission and values of Cotopaxi through all of his public appearances, social media, and professional profiles. He is actively involved in the outdoor and adventure community and is known for his leadership in sustainable business practices. He has been featured in many publications and interviewed on many podcasts, which helped him to establish himself as a thought leader in the industry.

Whatever is said of Smith, I believe his approach to personal branding is one that should be emulated by anyone who is serious about building their personal brand.

By aligning your personal brand with your mission and values, and actively promoting that reputation and thought leadership through various mediums, you can build a strong personal brand that can help you achieve your career goals.
